Food & wellness tips for models during Fashion Week

What does a model eat when preparing for weeks of fashion shows? According to Packer, director of the nutrition and wellness program at modelFIT, it all depends on balance and food combinations. She shares her tips for keeping models slim, energetic, and performing well, whether for castings or agency shoots. And yes, chocolate is sometimes part of the plan!

It’s not just about how many calories you consume, but how you eat them. “I never count calories. My meal plans for models are based on seasonality, alkalinity, and food combinations. Don’t mix proteins and carbs in the same meal to avoid bloating, gas, and constipation.”

For meals, the rule is simple: start light and finish more substantial. “In the morning, warm water with lemon and a smoothie to boost energy. Lunch stays light, with a salad or proteins like grilled salmon. Dinner is the richest meal, often whole grains, vegetables, fish or lamb, and sometimes organic dark chocolate for dessert.”

Hydration is crucial, but not during meals: “Drink water throughout the day, but not while eating, to preserve digestive enzymes.”

Snacks can be helpful, but choose them wisely. “I favor raw vegetables with hummus, avocado, or summer rolls. Avoid nuts at lunch: they are heavy to digest, especially if cooked.”

Some foods are best avoided. “Soda, undigested dairy, and fried foods cause bloating and discomfort. Models and agencies often recommend these restrictions to stay at their best during fashion weeks.”

Maintaining high energy levels is simpler than it seems. “Stay hydrated, eat light, choose green tea for a lasting boost, and get enough sleep.”

Before Fashion Week, it’s the perfect time to get your body back on track. “Eating properly, sleeping, and training allows models to perform even when the chaos of shows begins.”

Matcha has become the superfood of choice for many models, giving a boost to metabolism and energy.

To complement this diet, mix up your workouts. “Yoga, Pilates, and running: an effective combination for dynamic muscles and a balanced body.”

Finally, take care of your mood. “Meditation and hot baths help models relax and stay balanced even during the most stressful periods.”

Whether you’re a beginner model or represented by a top agency, these tips show that being a model is not just about appearance—it’s a full lifestyle of nutrition, exercise, and wellness.
