A first look at Angelina Jolie's Scandinavian Chloé collection
Earlier this summer, Angelina Jolie announced that Atelier Jolie, her newly formed creative collective, would be teaming up with Chloé and fashion designer Gabriela Hearst (who has since left her position as creative director of the French luxury giant) for a women's capsule collection.

"Sometimes the way you dress says, 'Don't mess with me - I have my armor on,'" Jolie told Vogue's Chioma Nnadi for the November issue of the U.S. magazine. "But I want a woman to feel safe enough to be soft. After I went through something where I was injured, a therapist asked me if I would try wearing a flowy garment. Sounds silly, but I assumed that pants and boots gave off a more 'rugged' look, a stronger me. But was I strong enough to be soft?"

Now that the first images of the collection have been released, the answer to this question seems to be a resounding "yes". Photographed by Zoë Ghertner, the images focus on abstract shapes and lush textures. The Chloé x Atelier Jolie capsule collection, based on remnants and natural fabrics such as organic silk, organic crepe de chine and certified wool, includes many of Jolie's own closet essentials, including an embroidered cotton dress inspired by one she wore as a child and a black velvet cloak.

Perhaps due to her years as a UN Refugee Agency Goodwill Ambassador and Special Envoy, there's also a real focus on clothes for working women to wear in the real world. Take the vest made from leftover wool gabardine and the tailored coat - finished with cropped bell sleeves - or Jolie's favorite negligee dresses in a diverse palette of "nude" colors that can be flattering on a wide range of skin tones, something the actress pointed out after a shopping trip with her daughter Zahara, who had trouble finding a nude negligee dress that matched her skin tone, she told Nnadi. "Obviously, as a white woman, I've never had that experience," Jolie says candidly. "It never crossed my mind until we went shopping together and I saw that there was a lot of room for improvement." Some of the negligee dresses also feature mesh overlays, hemmed edges, while negligee skirts have unexpected lace inserts that add a little oomph to these classic pieces.

The collection also includes a small selection of quirky accessories such as a pair of black pumps with a seductive V-shaped neckline and curved heels, as well as bracelets, brooches and necklaces that artfully mix sculptural organic shapes in silver and gold with black ribbons and rope trims, stamped with both the Chloé and Atelier Jolie logos on the back. The collection will be available online and in Chloé boutiques from January 2024.
