Fact: Model agencies have little time
The most important rule is to keep your cover letter very short. This is because a renowned and good model agency sometimes receives 50 to 100 applications a day. If there is only one scout in the agency, he or she only has a few seconds for each application, in addition to the actual agency work. That's why you need to score points with your photo, not with a long cover letter.

Write to the model agency: Contact details and dimensions
Your email or letter should include the following details:

Last name and first name
age
Place of residence
e-mail address
Your telephone number
Body size
Fabrication
You should provide your model agency with this basic information in writing.

References and social media accounts
You can also add further information, e.g.

URL of the Instagram channel
YouTube channel URL if you have more than 5,000 followers
Experience if you have already had jobs or references and customers
Reference links to YouTube or Vimeo for commercials
Under no circumstances should you write more information to your model agency. Now we come to the really important step, your photo! That's right, the singular, the photo. You don't need an expensive photo shoot, no professional photographer, just yourself and a friend, or even your mom or dad, who will take a good photo of you in daylight. This is how it works.

Application photo for your cover letter
As described above, the model scouts have little time when you are looking for new faces. On average, a good model agency receives 50 to 100 applications per day. This means that the model scout only has a few seconds for each application and each individual review of the application documents. In addition to scouting new faces, his tasks also include concluding new contracts, planning the first shoots and presenting the model to the team. So it's your photo that counts! In principle, your application should not contain more than a maximum of four photos, but one or two photos are generally sufficient.

Full body photo
In combination with your height, clothing and age, the scout will then have all the important information. The decision then only takes a few seconds. How can you make your photos perfect?

The perfect environment for application photos
For your application photos, you should make sure you use daylight, as this provides the best lighting conditions and absolutely natural light. The light from lamps does not have the natural warmth and of course the light source is directly in the room, which is also noticeable in the shadows. That's why you should always make sure that you take your photo in daylight as a first step. You should definitely avoid make-up, any styling that distracts from you and your skin, your hair, your facial features and your proportions is too much! You should therefore avoid make-up and styling completely. Your clothes shouldn't distract from you either, so wear black trousers and a black top if you're a woman or a black shirt if you're a man. You should keep your shoes the same, simple and inconspicuous. Let's summarize once again:

Photos in daylight
A good smartphone camera is sufficient
No make-up
No styling
Black trousers, black top, plain shoes

These are the most important facts for your application photos. So you have two perfect pictures, portrait and full body. Make sure that you don't laugh in either photo, that you are absolutely emotionless and that you only look into the camera. As I said, nothing should distract from your person, not even gestures or facial expressions. If you have both photos, you are welcome to take a photo with a smile and a photo from the side so that you can also see yourself in the profile. This gives you four photos and the perfect basis for writing to your model agency!
