When people hear the word "software developer," images of pale, socially awkward young men often come to mind. Similarly, the modeling industry is often stereotyped as a world of beautiful faces with little substance. But Lyndsey Scott, a successful model for Prada and Victoria's Secret, completely defies these assumptions. Not only has she graced the pages of Harper's Bazaar, W, and British Vogue, but she is also an accomplished app developer, with her iPhone and iPad creations approved by Apple.
Scott explained to CNN, "When modeling, you never have full control over anything. It's incredibly fulfilling to channel my skills into apps where I can see my full impact." Her dual career shows that models can excel far beyond the catwalk, and she serves as an inspiration for young models and those working with model agencies who feel confined by stereotypes.
Before being discovered by major model agencies, Lyndsey was a teenager from New Jersey, teaching herself software programming while enjoying mobile games. "If being a nerd means being smart and a good programmer, I have no problem with that," she said. By high school, she had already mastered coding on her TI-89 calculator, even if her classmates didn’t fully appreciate her talents.
Her journey underscores a powerful message: modeling and intellectual pursuits are not mutually exclusive. Aspiring models, whether working with a model agency or exploring modeling on their own, can draw inspiration from Scott’s story. She demonstrates that you can thrive in the fashion world while also building a meaningful career in technology.
