In our latest extended interview with top international model Alecia Morais, we dove deeper into her journey — from a small island in Cape Verde to the global stages of fashion’s biggest runways and top model agencies. What began as a discovery on her way to school quickly turned into a lifelong modeling passion that would take her around the world and beyond.
Interviewer: Alecia, can you share with us where you’re from and how that shaped your path into modeling and the world of model agencies?
Alecia Morais: I grew up on the rugged, beautiful island of Santo Antão in Cape Verde. It’s a place rich in tradition and breathtaking nature, but at 15 I had the chance to fly to Europe for my first fashion opportunity. I was discovered by a scout and encouraged to enter the Elite Model Look contest, which changed everything. Winning that opened doors with modeling agencies and led to my first international trip to China.
Interviewer: That must have been an unforgettable moment — how did it feel to transition into professional modeling so young?
Alecia: It was surreal. One moment I was walking to school; the next I was traveling to Paris, Milan, and London to walk for designers like Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, and more. Over the years, being signed with reputable model agencies has helped me navigate the very competitive world of fashion, across continents and cultures.
Interviewer: What surprised you most about the fashion industry once you were in it?
Alecia: Honestly, everything. I didn’t realize how demanding it would be — the castings, the travel, multiple time zones, and the discipline needed to stay consistent. Behind every photoshoot and runway show there’s an incredible amount of preparation that people never see. Without passion, you simply can’t sustain the work.
Interviewer: Looking back over more than a decade in modeling, what have you learned about yourself?
Alecia: I’ve learned responsibility, resilience, and the importance of believing in myself. I had to learn English, adapt to new cultures, and represent myself professionally. More than anything, I had to trust my attitude — confidence is what sets a model apart, far beyond the clothes we wear.
Interviewer: You’ve mentioned using your platform beyond fashion — tell us about that.
Alecia: This year I’ve focused on giving back to my home in Cape Verde by helping feed families in need. It reminded me that as models, we have a voice and a platform. It’s more than just runway walks; it’s about making an impact and inspiring others.
Interviewer: Finally, what advice do you have for young aspiring models?
Alecia: Be true to yourself and stay determined. Modeling is not always glamorous; it’s filled with ups and downs. But if you love what you do, and you are ready to work hard without giving up — even when others doubt you — that’s when the real journey begins.
Her story is a vivid reminder that while joining model agencies and stepping into fashion may begin with talent and luck, a long-lasting modeling career is built on grit, heart, and purpose.
