Interview: Doina Ciobanu on Fashion Marathons, Instagram, and Navigating the World of Modeling
Daria: Doina, thanks for taking the time to talk with us. You’ve had an incredible journey from fashion enthusiast to one of the most respected models in the industry. Looking back, how was your first fashion month this year?

Doina: It was absolutely beautiful — but also incredibly tiring! Fashion months are like a marathon, not a sprint. There’s a lot of travel between London, Paris, and Milan, and you’re constantly running from one show to the next. That’s why preparation — both physically and mentally — is so important.

Daria: Speaking of preparation, what’s your secret for staying healthy during such an intense modeling schedule?

Doina: Honestly, people underestimate how much being on the road can take out of you. You’re outside early in the morning, socializing all day, sometimes getting very little sleep. I focus a lot on proper nutrition — eating greens, staying hydrated, taking probiotics and vitamins — because your immune system has to be strong. It’s not just about looking good on the runway; it’s about feeling good too.

Balancing Between Shows and Career Choices

Daria: You’ve worked endlessly with many designers and model agencies around the world. Do you find yourself choosing certain shows over others?

Doina: I do. I’ve reached the point in my career where I only attend shows for brands I truly work with or have a strong connection to — not just to say I was there. In this industry, models are everywhere, and while walking in a show for a big name is great, it’s more valuable to build strong creative partnerships than to just chase every opportunity.

Instagram: A Game-Changer for Models and Creatives

Daria: Let’s talk about Instagram — you’ve mentioned before how important it’s been in your career.

Doina: Instagram has completely changed the way modeling works. When I started, the only way to be discovered was through model agencies or traditional casting calls. Now, you can be found online, build a portfolio, and get noticed by brands and scouts without ever stepping foot in a casting room. I tell young girls who want to be models: start with your Instagram. You never know who may see your feed and reach out.

The Evolution of Fashion and Digital Identity

Daria: How do you see the industry changing, especially with the rise of digital influencers?

Doina: Fashion is becoming far more diverse and digitally driven. It’s not only about who walks in the show anymore — it’s about your digital footprint, your authenticity, and your voice. Photos and editorials are still beautiful, but video and storytelling give people a deeper connection with models and creators. That’s why I relaunched my YouTube channel — to show a side of fashion that can’t always be captured in still images.

Advice for Aspiring Models

Daria: What final advice would you give to girls who want to work in fashion but aren’t quite sure where to start?

Doina: I always say the same thing: be proactive. Use Instagram to connect with other models, model agencies, and designers. Showcase your own style and create work that feels true to you. A friend of mine was discovered for a major campaign simply because she was active online. You are your own best PR.

Closing Thoughts

As Doina’s interview shows, modeling today isn’t just about walking in shows — it’s about owning your narrative, nurturing your health, and using platforms like Instagram to build meaningful connections within fashion and beyond.
