From Early Discovery to Late Success: Mary Ann’s Inspiring Journey

Discovered at just 14 years old in the 1980s by Elite Model Management, Mary Ann quickly caught the attention of a major model agency. However, her parents did not allow her to pursue modeling at the time. The famous saying, “if it’s meant to happen, it will happen,” has never been more fitting than in her story. Thirty-three years later, that intuition proved true.

At 47, Mary Ann officially began her modeling career, proving that there is no ideal age to become a model. Today, her achievements include collaborations with international clients such as AVEDA, Numero Russia Magazine, and renowned designers like Deveaux New York. Her journey inspires many models who dream of succeeding outside the traditional standards imposed by model agencies.

Initially discovered by Eileen Ford of the legendary Ford Modeling Agency, Mary Ann first chose a different path. After high school, she devoted herself to the visual arts, earning a BFA in graphic design and later an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She worked as a graphic designer, exhibited artist, and university professor before returning, years later, to the opportunity once left on hold by the modeling world.

Among her most meaningful experiences, the international AVEDA campaign “Know What You (We) Made Of” holds a special place. More than just a modeling job, the collaboration recognized her identity as an artist and her deeply held values. Being chosen to represent qualities such as Mentor, Defiant, and Balanced strengthened her sense of belonging in an evolving industry where models are increasingly valued for their authenticity.

Her work with photographer Nagi Sakai for Numero Russia Magazine, as well as her selection by Deveaux New York, confirmed her place in an industry where model agencies now seek profiles rich in experience and personal stories. Another unforgettable memory was her Clarins campaign in Paris, experienced with her family, blending a modeling career with precious life moments.

Being a model at 50 represents a strength for Mary Ann, not an obstacle. She explains that at this age she brings greater confidence, life experience, and depth to her modeling. Where she once doubted herself at 14 or 20, she now embodies a self-assurance that reflects the industry’s shift toward greater inclusivity and diversity. Her involvement with the Model Activist Group, also known as Model Mafia, has connected her with engaged and inspiring young models.

To those wishing to begin, Mary Ann reminds us that “success is where preparation meets opportunity.” Her advice is clear: believe in yourself, nurture your dreams, and move forward with desire, determination, and dedication. A powerful message for all aspiring models, regardless of age, and for all model agencies ready to look beyond established norms.
